모찌모찌랜드(Mochimochi Land)’로 활동하고 있는 시카고 출신 아티스트 안나 흐라코벡(Anna Hrachovec)의 개인전 ‘놈놈 프로젝트(Gnome Gnome Project)’가 5월 23일부터 한달 동안 에브리데이몬데이 갤러리에서 열린다.

모찌모찌랜드는 모든 소재와 배경, 캐릭터들을 손 뜨개질 작업을 통해 입체적으로 탄생시키며 이번 전시는 작가가 한국에서 가지는 첫 전시이다. 그녀의 대표적인 캐릭터 중 하나가 빨간색 세모난 모자와, 덥수룩한 수염, 화려한 옷을 입은 캐릭터인데, 이 인상 착의만으로 보면 우리는 바로 ‘산타 할아버지’를 떠올리게 된다. 하지만 이들은 산타가 아니다. 이들은 흙 속에 살면서 대지의 귀중한 보물을 지키는 땅의 정령, 바로 ‘놈 (Gnome)’ 이다.

대지가 피어나는 5월, ‘놈’이 가장 발 빠르게 돌아다니며 활동하는 시기인 만큼 작가가 형형색색의 실로 구현한 모찌모찌랜드를 엿볼 수 있는 좋은 시간이 될 것이다.

Anna Hrachovec, a Chicago-born artist who works as Mochimochi Land, has a solo exhibition called "The Man." The Gnome Genome Project will be held for a month from May 23 at the Everyday Mooonday.

Mochimochirand creates all the materials, backgrounds and characters in three dimensions through hand- knitting, and this exhibition shows the author's work in Korea. It's her first exhibition. The Spirit of Land that protects precious treasures is the Gnome.
