작가는 2004년에 아카데미 미네르바를 졸업하고 그 다음 해에 암스테르담으로 이주하여, 종이에 상세하고 복잡한 그림을 그리기 시작했다. 현재의 작가는 스페인의 소모라는 도시에서 그리고 최근까지 한국의 서울에서 개발한 그림을 추구하고 있다.

보통 사람들은 어린 시절에 많은 것을 처음 접하고 경험한다. 호기심과 상상력을 통한 순간들은 거의 마법처럼 느껴진다. 하지만 나이가 들수록 새로웠던 느낌은 점점 옅어지고 어떤 것에도 놀랐던 경험은 줄어든다. 작가는 캐릭터들이 채워주는 환상의 세계를 만들어냄으로써, 우리가 어릴 적의 젊고 성숙했던 사람들을 연결시켜주고 우리가 기억하는 경이로움을 되살린다. 그리고 작가는 본인의 작품과 함께 원시적인 그림과 조각의 삽화적 성격을 언급하는 것을 좋아한다. 작가가 이를 좋아하는 이유는 선택적인 강조의 결과로 인한 왜곡이 담겨있기 때문이다. 집중하는 부분은 강조되고, 그렇지 않은 부분은 축소되거나 생략된다. 작가는 얼굴에 초점을 맞춰 추상의 형태로 다듬어 본질적인 부분만 남긴다. 작가는 모든 측면에 이 방법을 똑같이 적용하지 않는 대신, 작업을 위해 성숙하고 노동적인 기술을 사용한다. 그래서 순진하고 세련된 이 대조가 작품에 다소 어색한 맛을 준다. 단순성과 복잡성, 무작위성과 이성, 결함과 완전성을 동시에 충돌시키기 위함이다.

Raymond graduated from Minerva Academy in 2004. He moved to Amsterdam the year after and started making delicate and complex drawings. Currently the artist is developing drawings in Somo Spain and Seoul Korea.

Most people have their first time experiences during their childhood. These first moments of curiosity and imagination feel like magic. As we get older, that sensation of something new slowly deteriorates and we are rarely ecstatic about anything. The artist awakens this whimsical feeling in us and reconnects us with our young selves with characters that create fantastical worlds. Furthermore, Raymond enjoys the characteristics of primitive drawings and illustrative sculpture in his work. He pushes distortion with intentional exaggerations. He draws attention to focal points, and omits other elements. He focuses on the face, keeping only the fundamental aspects through the process of abstraction. Instead of applying this method equally on all parts, he uses them in an elegant and laborious way. This creates a rather awkward mood in a naive and stylistic dichotomy in his work. He executes this with intention to create conflicts between simplicity and complexity, chaos and order and perfection and imperfection.
